恭敬上师不能只看表面行为
Respect for One’s Teacher Cannot Be Mere Lip Service
对上师的恭敬，不在于外面的行为，而在于内心。
Respect for one’s teacher is shown not by outer actions but by the heart.
比如，麦彭仁波切曾有一个侍者，叫涅内俄萨。
For instance, Mipham Rinpoche once had an attendant by the name of Lama Ösel.
本来他是个愚笨的人，脾气比较暴躁，
In the beginning, Lama Ösel was a fool with a fiery temper.
甚至在上师面前也显得非常无礼，态度极不调柔恭顺。
Even in front of his teacher, he acted very rude, and his attitude was not gentle or reverent at all.
有时上师亲自开许的弟子前来拜见，
Occasionally, Mipham Rinpoche gave personal permission for disciples to come see him.
他却将其挡在外面，说上师病得特别严重，就是不让他们进门。
Yet Lama Ösel would stop them at the door and claim that Rinpoche was severely ill. No matter what, he refused to allow them in.
麦彭仁波切本人，似乎也害怕这个侍者。
Mipham Rinpoche himself also seemed to be scared of this attendant.
有一次，拥嘎堪布为撰著《功德藏》的讲义而前来请教，
One time, Khenpo Yönga came to seek Rinpoche’s advice, as Khenpo was composing teachings on the Treasury of Precious Qualities.
麦彭仁波切有许多甚深教言正想解说，结果这个俄萨来了，
Mipham Rinpoche was about to explain many profound teachings when Ösel came in.
麦彭仁波切就很紧张，赶忙对拥嘎说：“你快回去吧！俄萨来了，我现在不敢给你讲。”
Rinpoche became very nervous and hurriedly said to Khenpo Yönga, “Quick, go home! Ösel is here, I do not dare to teach you now.”
从表面上看，俄萨对上师特别不恭敬，
On the surface, Ösel seemed particularly disrespectful to his teacher.
但实际上，他是对上师极度关心，担心上师抱病利益众生太辛苦。
But in fact, he was deeply concerned for Rinpoche and worried that he toiled too hard as he carried on benefiting living beings while ill.
以此虔诚的信心，最终上师的智慧也全部传给了他。
Because of this devotion and faith, in the end, all of his teacher’s wisdom was passed onto Ösel.
后来，麦彭仁波切圆寂之前，对俄萨说：“你以后遇到困难，就去找华木钦哲。”
Before Mipham Rinpoche died, he said to Ösel, “If you meet with difficulties in the future, go find Pelmo Khyentse.”
并告诉其他人：“以后他生病的话，你们一定要关照他！”
Rinpoche also said to the others, “If he falls ill in the future, you must care for him!”
所以，表面上的花言巧语不重要，
Thus, superficial flowery, clever words are not important.
弟子对上师到底怎么样，
To see how disciples actually treat their teacher,
关键看他是否真正有信心、恭敬心和欢喜心。
the key is to see if they have true confidence, reverence, and fondness.
